This was written for
threesentenceficathon's 2024 ficathon, responding to the prompt Fire Emblem: Engage, Yunaka/Panette, survival.
Title: An Ex-Assassin's Exception
Fandom: Fire Emblem Engage
Characters/Pairing: Yunaka/Panette, focusing on Yunaka
Rating: PG (references to canon-typical violence and killing)
Summary: There are still things Yunaka will use her skills as an assassin for.
-
While she'd already retired from her previous work as an assassin, Yunaka continued to make use of the skills she'd picked up from those days for the sake of her own survival and that of her comrades, even while having sworn to herself that once this war was over she'd put her daggers away and never kill again.
Since she'd met, befriended and ultimately fallen in love with Panette, though, she decided that she could perhaps forgive herself a little if she slipped back into an old habit or two for the other woman's sake, and that she'd do her best to navigate the fine line between not going too far and being willing to do anything for someone she cared about if danger did come their way.
It helped that Panette would always have her back in these kinds of situations; even with her own rough past she wanted to distance herself from, Yunaka knew she could count on her to go wild with that axe of hers if need be to keep her safe -- and that nothing could stop the two of them as long as they had each other.

As always, comments and constructive criticism are both welcome and appreciated.
